Kemadruma Yoga

Also written Kemdrum Yoga, Kemadrum Yoga, Kemadruma Yog, Kemdruma Dosha

Kemadruma Yoga, as we check it, forms when no planet other than the Sun, Rahu and Ketu occupies the Moon's own sign or the signs immediately before and after it — the 12th and 2nd from the Moon. In other words, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn are all absent from those three signs.

What Kemadruma Yoga is associated with

Classical texts describe the Moon, the mind, as drawing support from planets on either side of it, and Kemadruma as the condition where that support is missing. It is traditionally associated with periods of financial strain, loneliness or feeling unsupported, and with having to rely on one's own resources. Modern astrologers often read it more gently as a self-reliant, independent mind that builds its own footing. Texts such as Brihat Jataka and Phaladeepika discuss it among the Moon-based yogas, alongside Sunapha, Anapha and Durudhara, which form when the support is present.

What weakens it, and what this site checks

Kemadruma is one of the yogas most often cancelled in fuller treatments. Texts list cancellations such as a planet in a kendra from the Moon or from the lagna, the Moon in a kendra aspected by Jupiter, or a strong, bright Moon, and with these applied it survives in relatively few charts. Some definitions consider only the 2nd and 12th from the Moon and ignore planets joined with it. Our engine counts planets in all three signs as support, excludes the Sun, Rahu and Ketu, and applies no cancellations at all — so a chart listed here may well have the yoga cancelled.

FAQ

Kemadruma Yoga — common questions

Is Kemadruma yoga bad?

It is classically listed as a difficult yoga, linked with periods of feeling unsupported. It is also among the most frequently cancelled, and on its own it describes a tendency, not a fixed outcome. Read it with the rest of the chart.

How is Kemadruma yoga cancelled?

Classical texts give several cancellations, the best known being a planet in a kendra from the Moon or the lagna, or Jupiter aspecting the Moon. Our chart does not apply these, so check them before giving this yoga much weight.

How do I know if I have Kemadruma yoga?

Look at the Moon's sign and the signs either side of it. If none of Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus or Saturn is in those three signs, the basic condition is met. The free kundli at /free-kundli checks this and shows the planets around your Moon.
