Sasa Yoga

Also written Shasha Yoga, Sasha Yoga, Shash Yoga, Sasa Mahapurusha Yoga

Sasa Yoga forms when Saturn is in Capricorn or Aquarius, its own signs, or Libra, its exaltation, and that sign is the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house from the lagna. It is the Saturn member of the five Pancha Mahapurusha yogas, and the one most often linked with slow, earned authority.

What Sasa Yoga is associated with

Sasa is the Saturn type of the Mahapurusha yogas, and texts describe it through endurance: a person who rises through patience, organisation and hard work, and who may come to lead groups, institutions or labour. It is classically associated with administration, politics, land, mining, law and long-running enterprises, and with authority that arrives later in life rather than early. The descriptions also mention a reserved, strategic temperament and a capacity to bear responsibility. With Saturn in the 10th it is usually read most strongly in career.

What weakens it, and what this site checks

Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and other texts reduce any Mahapurusha yoga when the planet is combust or joined by the Sun or Moon, and Saturn's own descriptions in this yoga are not uniformly flattering — some texts mention a hard or calculating streak alongside the authority. Saturn in the 7th is also read carefully for marriage. Some authors count kendras from the Moon as well. Our engine checks Saturn in Capricorn, Aquarius or Libra, in the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th from the lagna, and nothing more — not combustion, conjunctions, degree or the Moon.

FAQ

Sasa Yoga — common questions

Is Sasa yoga the same as Shasha yoga?

Yes. Sasa, Shasha and Sasha are spellings of the same Sanskrit word, meaning hare. All refer to Saturn strong in its own or exaltation sign and placed in a kendra from the lagna.

Which ascendants can have Sasa yoga?

Capricorn and Aquarius are kendras for the movable and fixed ascendants, and Libra for Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. So the eight movable and fixed ascendants can form it; the four dual signs cannot.

How do I know if I have Sasa yoga?

Check whether Saturn is in Capricorn, Aquarius or Libra, and whether that sign is your 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house. The free kundli at /free-kundli shows Saturn's sign and house and flags the yoga.
