Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga
Also written Neechabhanga Raja Yoga, Neech Bhang Raj Yoga, Nicha Bhanga Raja Yoga, Neecha Bhanga Yoga
Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga, as we check it, forms when a planet is debilitated and the lord of the sign it occupies — its dispositor — is in a kendra, the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house from the lagna. For example, the Sun debilitated in Libra with Venus in a kendra. Rahu and Ketu are not considered.

Each debilitated planet, and the planet that has to be in a kendra to cancel it
Every row below was produced by running the chart engine itself over each placement, so it is exactly the rule a chart on this site is checked against.
| Debilitated planet | Debilitated in | Dispositor | Dispositor must be in (Aries ascendant shown; kendras move with the ascendant) |
|---|---|---|---|

| Moon | Scorpio | Mars | Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn |
| Mars | Cancer | Moon | Aries, Cancer, Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn |

From any ascendant, the dispositor has to be in the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th sign from it.
What Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga is associated with
A debilitated planet is at its weakest, and the cancellation of that weakness is a favourite theme in classical astrology. Texts describe a planet whose debility is cancelled as giving results that begin with struggle and turn to strength, sometimes rising further than an ordinary planet would. The yoga is associated with late or hard-won success, recovery from setbacks, and achievement in exactly the area the debilitated planet first made difficult. The "Raja" in the name reflects the view that such a reversal can raise a person's standing considerably.
What weakens it, and what this site checks
Classical texts, including Phaladeepika, give several separate conditions for cancelling debility: the dispositor in a kendra from the lagna or the Moon, the lord of the planet's exaltation sign in a kendra, the debilitated planet aspected by its dispositor, the planet exalted in the navamsa, and others. Many astrologers also distinguish simple cancellation from a full Raja yoga, which they reserve for stronger cases. Our engine checks one condition only — the dispositor in a kendra from the lagna — and reports the first debilitated planet that meets it. It does not test the other conditions or count from the Moon.

FAQ
Neecha Bhanga Raja Yoga — common questions
Does Neecha Bhanga Raja yoga make a debilitated planet strong?
Texts describe the debility as cancelled and the planet as capable of good results, often after early difficulty. It does not turn the planet into an exalted one, and how much it helps depends on the rest of the chart.
What are the other ways debilitation is cancelled?
Classical texts list several, such as the exaltation lord in a kendra, the dispositor aspecting the planet, or the planet exalted in the navamsa. Our chart checks only the dispositor in a kendra from the lagna, so it may miss cancellations other astrologers would count.
How do I know if I have Neecha Bhanga Raja yoga?
First find any debilitated planet in your chart, then check whether the lord of its sign is in your 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th house. The free kundli at /free-kundli marks dignities and lists the yoga when this condition is met.
